The heart
of our software innovation

Improve the ethical and scientific quality of your clinical trial.

Engage Spiral early in your planning and set your clinical trial up for maximum success.

Our randomisation methods

Mitigate bias and create credible, comparable treatment groups—in real-time.

  • Simple

Participants are randomly assigned to a treatment or control group without constraints.

  • Block

Participants are randomised in blocks to ensure equal group sizes.

  • Stratified

Participants are grouped based on specific characteristics and then randomised within each stratum to ensure these characteristics are evenly distributed across the groups.

  • Permuted Block

Where the order of assignments within the blocks is randomised to reduce predictability.

  • Cluster

Where entire groups are randomised rather than individual participants, all cluster participants receive the same intervention. Cluster cross-over trials randomly re-assign the clusters at set time points.

  • Adaptive

Where the probability of assignment to a particular group is adjusted as the trial progresses, often based on accumulating data such as response rates.

  • Unequal

Instead of a 1:1 ratio, participants might be randomised in unequal proportions (e.g., 2:1 or 3:1) between groups.

“At Spiral, we have become industry experts in helping our clients choose the type of randomisation they need – a crucial part of the trial process to achieve the best possible outcome.”

“We are working with novel clinical trials which span several years, and we need to operate at the leading edge of technological capabilities.”
