Openness
“Since Spinnaker was the seed of an idea, one of the things I’ve enjoyed most as the Founder and CEO of Spiral is connecting with people and building relationships.”
The people we work with. The people we work for. The people whose lives are impacted by the work that we do.
Once a year, we bring our team together from across the country. Each of us arrives with the experiences and lessons of the past 12 months. Our annual meetup is a moment to explore the patterns and insights emerging from our work. And every time, we’re reminded that no matter how far we grow or how fast things move, it’s always about the people.
We’ve scaled to a team of just under 20 and have grown to support 39 trials across 664 global sites. At our core, we’ve always been focused on reimagining research tools. Our niche is platform trials for investigator-led research—supporting good people trying to do good things.
“At the heart of that work is our values. Openness. People-oriented. Results-focused. Innovative. And guardianship (kaitiakitanga).”
I’ll start with openness. This isn’t just a word we throw around on a virtual noticeboard. All of our values guide our culture, how we interact with our clients, and how we build our product.
Openness means staying curious and constantly asking why! We’ve built multiple global trials spanning decades of problem-solving and iterative design thinking. We often have examples of alternative approaches that achieve the same outcome more efficiently, reliably, or with fewer risks down the line.
Remaining open to alternative thinking and asking why is how we make the work better. It’s how we protect our peers from avoidable missteps. It means being consistently professional in how we explore ideas and outcomes with our clients. We don’t just build software. We build partnerships. Clients don’t want to work with a faceless company—they want to work with people, too!
