Insights and Highlights: ACTA 2023

After an invigorating week at the ACTA International Clinical Trials Symposium in Melbourne, it's time to pause and reflect on an event that truly exemplified the theme Changing the landscape of clinical trials.

The conference not only offered a deep dive into the evolving world of clinical trials but also underscored the rapid advancements in adaptive platform trials - an area that has become our forte at Spiral.

My favourite sessions delved into the sophisticated statistics that underpin the design of these innovative trials and explored the intricacies of adaptive design methodologies. These designs are revolutionising clinical research by offering flexibility and efficiency.

“The conference has reinforced our commitment to remain at the forefront of adaptive platform trials, continually pushing the boundaries of clinical research.”

As enriching as the sessions were, it was the human connections that brought the conference to life for me. Sponsoring the coffee cart each year isn't just a gesture of goodwill; it's a testament to our belief in the power of community and collaboration. The coffee breaks are a time for conversation, idea exchange, and networking. I love these informal gatherings, where dialogue often sparks new ideas and helps to form new connections.

It was also incredibly humbling to see trials that Spiral has been involved in for many years get the recognition they deserve on a global scale. ASCOT (Australasian COVID-19 Trial) was announced as the Excellence in Trials Statistics Award Winner during the conference. An amazing achievement for a trial that is generating clinical evidence on how to tackle COVID-19, a virus still very much prevalent across the world.

The ACTA Symposium was not just about keeping pace with the rapidly changing landscape of clinical trials; it was a reminder of the vibrant community we are a part of. I carry with me the insights, inspiration, and connections forged during this memorable week. What an exciting landscape to be part of!
